Early Alert & Midterm Reporting Timelines Updated to Support Academic Momentum
Posted in The Daily Bulletin on Wednesday, July 29, 2026
As Buffalo State University advances its Academic Momentum plan, Academic Affairs will adopt revised Early Alert and Midterm reporting timelines beginning in Fall 2026. These adjustments reflect Buffalo State's commitment to using proactive, evidence-based practices that strengthen our ability to identify and support students early in the semester, allowing for timely intervention and increasing opportunities for student persistence, academic momentum, and degree completion.
The revised reporting timelines for Fall 2026 are:
- Early Alert: September 14–28 - Submitted in Navigate
- Midterm Grades: October 5–19 - Submitted in Banner
Buffalo State's Academic Momentum plan is built on evidence-based strategies that improve student retention, credit accumulation, and timely degree completion. One of the most effective of these strategies is providing students with meaningful feedback and connecting them with academic support services as early as possible. By moving the Early Alert and Midterm reporting periods earlier in the semester, the university will have additional time to coordinate outreach, academic advising, and other evidence-based interventions that help students overcome academic challenges, remain on track, and successfully complete their courses.
Faculty participation in the Early Alert and Midterm reporting processes is essential to the success of this initiative. The information faculty provide enables advisors, student support professionals, and academic leaders to engage students in meaningful conversations, connect them with campus resources, and implement timely interventions that promote persistence and academic success.
Thank you for your continued partnership in advancing student success. Your timely submission of Early Alerts and Midterm grades is an important component of Buffalo State's Academic Momentum plan and reflects our shared commitment to fostering student achievement, strengthening student persistence, and creating the conditions necessary for every student to thrive. Together, these efforts will help Buffalo State build a more proactive, coordinated, and student-centered approach to student success.
